Underground Music Zine Germany October 12,2002 BEAT CORP Permanent Jetlag (CD)(Independent Release) With Beat Corp, chances are big that this release will end up in the best albums of 2002 in our list 'cos I was amazed from the first to the last second! But then again, the man behind Beat Corp (Hans Gutknecht) has seen a lot of things in music. Since eight years he´s a well respected engineer who worked for artists like The Roots and George Clinton, but with the foundation of Beat Corp he started focussing on songwriting. His skills in studiowork must have influenced the sound of Beat Corp as what you get is a whole mixmag from different styles (from pure hiphop to noise-escapes a la Mogwai), all presented in a sort of madchester-thing. You see, Hans is linking himself to Primal Scream and the "Permanent Jetlag" cd can be without any problems seen as an updated version from "Screamadelica"... I even would go as far to say Beat Corp are sounding like Primal Scream with Ian Brown on vocals. As Hans is stating artists like The Beta Band, Fluke or Mogwai as an influence it is pretty clear that every song on "Permanent Jetlag" is a sort of experimental try-out but it ends up in having a collection of solid original dancy popsongs and impressive is the sole word I can find to describe it with...
